Oh Lord of all compassion,
Who in pity sent your son
To save the lost and dying world,
Purge my Earthly appetites
and the nagging need to fulfill them,
So that in their absence
I may experience the enlarging of my heart.
In that new space stir up a river of Compassion
That would purposely flow from me to others,
Filling the awkward gap that separates us.
This I beg, standing at the foot of the cross
in the Power of the Holy Spirit.
